App At A Time

App Name: Tumblr

What It Does: Allows you to view your dashboard (feed of posts from Tumblogs you follow), explore popular posts, access your account settings, and post your own content.

How I most often use it: When I’ve run out of Instagrams, or just want something a bit more random, I’ll pull out Tumblr on the bus home to browse content. I’d *love* to use it to listen to the music in my Tumblr feed, but whenever the screen goes to sleep or you change apps, the music stops. I don’t often post from mobile.

Has it replaced anything else in your life?: Tumblr has replaced all other blogging platforms for me (for my personal blog, my professional blog, my music blog, and App At A Time), but this app in particular has not, as most of what I post requires more interaction and planning than is convenient on mobile.

Most pleasing interaction: It’s not new to this version, but infinite scrolling is lovely — you feel like there’s an endless world of crap to discover.

How does it compare to the web version?: Quite similar, but posting is emphasized a bit less, and discovery (outside of the Tumblogs you follow) is emphasized a bit more.

Other comments: While I still have many feature requests, this is a significant upgrade from a cleanliness and performance standpoint. If you’re a Tumblr user on the web (and even if you’re not), this is an app worth having so you can explore.
